What are Dental Implants?

Single Tooth Implants
If you have just one or a few teeth missing, implants are the simplest solution. Each replacement tooth is attached to an individual dental implant.
Multiple Tooth Implants
If you have several teeth in a row missing, a multiple implant procedure minimizes the need for several implants in a row. Instead, an implant will be placed where the first and last missing teeth were, then a bridge of artificial teeth is permanently attached. If you have significant gaps, this is an excellent solution that minimizes surgery on the jawbone.
Two-Stage Implants
Two-stage dental implants are the most common and often the best implants if you are missing several teeth. The first stage in the surgery is to implant the titanium screws in the jawbone. After a few months, a follow-up surgery reveals the top of the implants so the abutments and crowns can be attached.
Single-Stage Implants
In some instances, the implants are placed with the caps still visible above the gums, alleviating the need to have a second surgery to expose the top of the implants. These may be the best dental implants for you if you don’t want to have a second surgery.

How Much do Dental Implants Cost?

When Will I Have My New Teeth?
Most people will have their permanent porcelain crowns placed about three to six months after the initial dental implant surgery. This gives the jawbone and implants time to merge and provides a robust and stable foundation for your new teeth. Temporary caps can usually be put in place during the healing process to give you the appearance of a full set of teeth. In some situations, permanent crowns can be placed immediately after surgery.
How Long Do Dental Implants Last?
Dental implants are considered a permanent solution to missing teeth. They can easily last for 30 years or more with proper care. If there is excessive wear on any crowns, they can be replaced.
Will I Need a Bone Graft for Dental Implants?
A bone graft won’t be necessary if you lost your teeth recently and don’t have any problems with jawbone deterioration. For some people, a bone graft is needed if the jawbone has deteriorated or, particularly in the case of front teeth, if the bone isn’t thick enough to hold the implant. Your surgeon can determine what is right for you.
Which is Better, Dental Implants or Dentures?
Several factors should be considered when choosing between dentures and dental implants, including cost, the condition of your jawbone and any remaining teeth, comfort, and convenience.
Dental implants are especially popular because the implants will often last a lifetime, particularly in patients over 55 years of age, and do away with the need to care for dentures. However, if the teeth have been missing for a long time or the individual has lost bone density, a bone graft may be necessary. If you are a good candidate for dental implants, they have several advantages over dentures, including:

I developed a significant infection beneath a problematic canine tooth, which suddenly became unbearable over a weekend. I was fortunate to be able to see my primary dentist the following Monday. It was felt that a root canal would be needed, and I luckily was able to see a specialist that morning due to a cancellation. Unfortunately, the specialist terminated the procedure due to the extent of hidden decay present, and I was referred to Milwaukee Oral Surgery and Implants to have the tooth removed after a course of antibiotics to treat the infection. The entire staff at Milwaukee was courteous, diligent, and helpful with scheduling, follow-up reminders, and communication. Dr. Wallock exceeded my expectations. The extraction was difficult given the condition of the tooth (partially removed, infected, and decayed).I was concerned about the healing period given the infection and pain endured to that point. Dr. Wallock prescribed adequate pain medication and called me the following morning to see how I was feeling. He also gave me his personal cell number to call if there was a need. That in itself is unheard of in the medical profession (at least in my experience). After a few days, my pain was not decreasing, and I was concerned. I called, left a VM, and spoke with Dr. Wallock within an hour. He agreed that I might still have a lingering infection and prescribed an additional course of antibiotics. Within two days, the majority of my pain and discomfort began to diminish. Dr. Walloch helped get me past a difficult two weeks so that I could enjoy a scheduled vacation 10 days after the removal. This is the level of care one should expect to receive when dealing with a significant health issue. I highly recommend Dr. Walloch and the clinic collectively.

My father has Alzheimer’s which makes dental care difficult. Dr. Midtling was so kind and careful with him. My father remembers so few things, but he does remember a fear of the Dentist. Dr. Midtling took the time to speak directly to him, and explained everything he planned to do and why. The office staff of Janet and Bre are competent and friendly. They worked to schedule my dad at a time when he is at his best. We would highly recommend this office if you have need for an oral surgeon.

On 7/22/24, I had an implant installed by Dr. Triggs and his "crew". I did not get her name .. but the Asst. that got me situated in the "chair" was great. We conversed about her implant experience.. as this was my first. She was great. Without going into massive detail, Dr. Triggs really knows what he is doing. Even putting the sedation IV into my arm.. was painless.. very unusual in my experience. But what I really wish to comment on here was the procedure and post pro. itself. You probably understand the first part of the implant process is, at procedure time, using a hi-def x-ray and determining EXACTLY where to drill and place the implant seat (which ten takes 3 months to truly heal prior to tooth appliance install). Drilling into bone and any other activities is very invasive. I heal quickly.. but I was expecting, if not some pain after IV and novacaine/procaine (which was wisely shot into gum AFTER I WAS OUT (!!!!)) .. at least major soreness, around and above the gum, also in and around neighboring tooth and also soreness extending to the outside on my face and to the nostril. So I watched the clocked. Hours passed. Novocaine/procaine and IV wore off with a wimper.. but no pain.. NO SORENESS. I prodded around with my tongue inside my mouth except were the surgery actually took place and stiches.. and pressed my finger on my face.. NOTHING. I thought that maybe some IV persisted. The next day, I woke up and still did not take any Advil. AGAIN NOTHING. The surgery occurred.. and with the exception of stiches there was no indication that anything was done. AMAZING. When it comes to my health.. I DO NOT SHOP price or anything else.. I shop quality and experience. Meredith had assisted, as always, setting this up and was very efficent in accumulating charges, contacting insurance to verify what was/was not covered and getting the estimate to me including the medical codes-which is always good in case I wished to challenge coverage detail with insurance company. Meredith provided this to me in a very timely manner, way prior to procedure date.. and I did not have to ask her for it. Very comforting.

I'm still sort of in shock over the entire procedure and how easy it all was! I have had paralyzing, unbelievable horrendous fear for several years about this event. Many a night of sleep has been lost over the years, dreading the procedure, added onto by all the horror stories I've heard - but now that it's over, all I can say is 'That's it?' From start to finish the entire thing was so... easy. I walked in, sat down, had a normal conversation and was in zero pain, and then the next thing I know I woke up and was on my way home. By day four I was totally back to normal - no swelling, no dry sockets, barely even a bruise. No one would believe me when I told them that all four wisdom teeth came out! I don't know what kind of techno-wizardry they used, but man was this something. It's a 10/10 from me. As someone with numerous negative experiences and extreme anxiety, this deserves some SERIOUS credit. Every nurse I dealt with as well as the surgeon himself was professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and patient. If this is what I can expect for oral procedures, then I will be back every single time something needs to be done. Very nice!

This review applies to multiple locations and I have been a patient for nearly 20 years. I have eight implants to go along with many extractions, so a lot of work done by these incredible surgeons. Every time I have something done, I walk away in total amazement. The doctors are VERY focused on the patient and how they are doing thru the procdure. I've had three different doctors over the years and the work has always been perfect. My first implant was over 18 years ago and I've had some recently. The overall care could not be better. The assistants and staff are great too - friendly, reassuring and thorough and I have found Janet to be especially helpful.
